Would you like to be our new Editor-in-Chief?

BMC and the Society in Europe for Simulation Applied to Medicine (SESAM) wish to announce that our founding Editor-in-Chief of Advances in Simulation, Professor Debra Nestel, will be stepping down from her role in October. Professor Nestel has built the journal into a unique and valuable resource for the international simulation community, and both BMC and SESAM are extremely grateful for her tireless work over the past four years.

We are seeking a new Editor-in-Chief to lead the journal in its next phase of development and to build on Professor Nestel’s achievements.

The successful candidate will have a broad interest in healthcare simulation with a strong publication record, editorial experience, and a clear strategic vision for Advances in Simulation.  They will be responsible for the content published in their journal and for ensuring that the ethos, editorial standards, policies and scope of the journal are maintained. The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for the other Editors within their journal, ensuring that there are sufficient Handling Editors to manage the incoming submissions, in terms of numbers and subject range. They also work with their Handling Editors to ensure that manuscripts in their journal are handled efficiently and appropriately.  Liaising with their Journal Development Editor, they will strategically develop their journal through commissioning and advocacy activities.

Advances in Simulation is an international journal with a global author base and readership and BMC and SESAM welcome applications from the international simulation community.  Please note, we are also looking for commitment to supporting the mission of SESAM.

The initial term for this position will be until March 2022. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed in October and the successful applicant will begin on confirmation of appointment.
