We are recruiting!

Advances in Simulation is recruiting a Senior Editor and a number of Associate Editors. As the growth of the journal continues, we must also ensure that it is able to cope with increased submissions on key topics whilst maintaining our high editorial standards. Therefore, we are looking to expand our editorial team.

Advances in Simulation is an internationally renowned open access journal publishing contemporary research on issues related to simulation in health and social care. We encourage applications from researchers with a background in a range of areas pertaining to simulation as applied to health and social care, as well as experience in various methodological approaches.

Who are we looking for?

We are interested in individuals who are engaged and are willing to handle a minimum of three manuscripts per month (for Associate Editors) or a minimum of ten manuscripts per month (for Senior Editor) across a wide spectrum of simulation-based research and scholarship.

You should hold an academic or clinical academic rank equivalent to Senior Lecturer, Reader, Associate Professor, or higher, and have a commensurate track record of relevant academic publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals.

Role and Responsibilities

As an Editor, your contribution to the journal would involve joining an international board of academic Editors who are responsible for assuring the suitability of manuscripts within their field of expertise and guiding them through the peer review, revision and publication processes. The core responsibilities of an Editor lie in two main areas: manuscript review and preparation, and journal advocacy.

Manuscript review and preparation

The Senior Editor handles multiple manuscripts, assigned to them by the Editor-in-Chief, further assessing them for suitability and assigning them to Associate Editors for handling through the peer review process. The Senior Editor oversees the work of multiple Associate Editors, and at times handles manuscripts directly through the peer review process. The Senior Editor may also be responsible for other editorial projects from time to time, such as conference abstracts and special collections. The Senior Editor may also deputise for the Editor-in-Chief on editorial decisions when a conflict of interest may arise. The Associate Editor handles new manuscripts assigned to them by the Senior Editors, ensuring peer review is swift, thorough and efficient, and that appropriate peer reviewers are selected and that thorough and developmental peer review is completed. The Associate Editor collates, develops, and synthesises peer review comments into a coherent message for authors; ensures comments from peer review are incorporated into the manuscript appropriately; and that the authors’ work is described as clearly and completely as necessary. The Associate Editor ensures all manuscripts recommended for acceptance meet the standards and scope of the journal.

Journal advocacy

Both the Senior Editor and Associate Editors are ambassadors for the Journal, encouraging submissions and highlighting the ethos, scope and aims of the Journal. Where called upon, the Associate Editor and the Senior Editor assist the Editor-in-Chief in preparing and executing strategies to develop the journal, including acting as Guest Editors for collections and thematic series.
